Robert Smith was last seen during the last week of November, 1995. It was alleged Smith was involved in the drug trade and made frequent trips out of state. On June 21, 1996 at about 3:00 p.m., the body of Robert Smith was located in a wooded area off of the roadway by loggers excavating that section of woods. The area where Smith's body was found is near Maryland Route 352 (White Haven Road) south of Green Hill Road in Wicomico County, MD.
