Pattern Evidence Section

The Pattern Evidence Section is comprised of the Latent Prints/Impressions and Firearms/Toolmarks Units and is managed by a Forensic Scientist Manager

Latent Prints/Impressions Unit:

The unit is responsible for performing the analysis of latent friction ridge impression, footwear, and tire track related evidence associated with criminal casework. In addition, the unit maintains and searches the AFIS database. Current staffing of the LPIU includes a Forensic Scientist Supervisor, one Forensic Scientist Advanced, two Forensic Scientists III, and two Forensic Scientists II.

Firearms/Toolmarks Unit:

The unit is responsible for performing the analysis of firearm and toolmark related evidence associated with criminal casework. The unit houses the repository for shell casings from all new handguns sold in the state. The unit is also responsible for maintaining and searching the NIBIN database. The FATMU is staffed with a Forensic Scientist Supervisor, one Forensic Scientist Advanced, one Forensic Scientist III (vacant), two Forensic Scientists II, and one Lab Technician I.
