Maryland State Police Make Arrest In Cecil County Death Investigation

(CECILTON, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested a Cecil County man in connection with a death investigation in Cecilton in June. 

Following consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Cecil County, Jason Timothy Simpson, 28, of Cecilton, Maryland, is charged with second-degree murder. He was arrested Thursday morning without incident. He was transported to the Cecil County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.  

The victim is identified as Ashley Silverman, 28, of Cecilton, Maryland. She was pronounced deceased on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where her death was subsequently ruled a homicide by asphyxiation.

Around 1:45 a.m. on June 18, 2026, troopers from the Maryland State Police North East Barrack responded to the 100-block of West Main Street for a report of a subject in medical distress. Upon arrival on the scene, troopers located the victim, later identified as Silverman. Police additionally located Simpson at the residence, who was initially charged with an unrelated incident. 

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene. Crime Scene Technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division additionally processed the scene for evidence.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
