State Police Charge Anne Arundel County Man with Sexual Abuse of a Minor
(ANNAPOLIS, MD) – Maryland State Police have charged an Anne Arundel County man in connection with the sexual abuse of a juvenile female in January.
The accused is identified as James Brooke Shoults, 59, of Severna Park, Maryland. He is charged with felony Second-Degree Rape, Sex Abuse of a Minor, Second-Degree Assault, and other related charges. He was taken into custody today without incident. He is currently at the Jennifer Road Detention Center and is scheduled for a bail review hearing in Anne Arundel County District Court.
The Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Central Region, initiated the investigation on July 7, 2026, after the victim reported the alleged sexual assault. According to the preliminary investigation, the alleged abuse between Shoults and the victim occurred at his home on January 10, 2026.
