State Police Investigate Fatal Incident Following Crash In Montgomery County

(ROCKVILLE, MD) Maryland State Police continue an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old man who fled the scene of a crash in Montgomery County last night.

The deceased is not being identified at this time. He is an 18-year-old man who was the driver of a blue Ford Fusion involved in the crash.  He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.  

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, troopers from the Rockville Barrack were dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash on the outer loop of I-495 past Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County.  While en route, police received several reports advising of an individual running along the northbound shoulder of I-495 towards Connecticut Avenue wearing gray pants and no shirt.

The preliminary investigation indicates the deceased was operating a blue Ford Fusion when for reasons unknown at this time struck an unattended blue Chevrolet pickup truck being towed by a white tow truck.  There were no reported injuries.

Witnesses of the incident advised police that the driver of the Ford Fusion exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, running along the shoulder of I-495. Moments later a trooper arrived on scene and located the fleeing driver who then jumped over the railing onto Stoney Brook Drive. 

The trooper responded without delay to the driver who fell approximately 50 feet below to attempt life saving measures.  EMS personnel from Montgomery County arrived and pronounced him deceased on the scene. 

The investigation continues.
