State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Anne Arundel County

News |

(LINTHICUM, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating an early morning fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in Anne Arundel County.

The deceased is identified as Marc Occeas, 37, of no fixed address. Emergency medical service personnel pronounced him deceased on the scene. Occeas was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the area of southbound I-295 at West Nursery Road for the report of a crash. The preliminary investigation indicates an MTA bus with passengers was traveling in the merge lane from I-295 to West Nursery Road in Anne Arundel County. Police believe a pedestrian, later identified as Occeas, walked from the right shoulder into the travel portion of the highway when he was subsequently struck by the oncoming bus.

Following the crash, all passengers were safely removed from the bus involved in the incident and transferred to a second bus to transport them to their intended destinations. The driver remained on the scene. There were no other reported injuries.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, which lasted approximately three hours. Officers from the Maryland Transit Authority also assisted on scene.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
