State Police Investigating Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash In Montgomery County
(ROCKVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred early this morning in Montgomery County.
The driver of a Volkswagen EOS, identified as Daniel Edward Gannon, 60, of Rockville, Maryland, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Montgomery County emergency medical services personnel. No further injuries were reported at the scene.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded to northbound Interstate 270 at Shady Grove Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation indicates a tractor-trailer became immovable in the roadway and for reasons unknown, the Volkswagen struck the rear of the tractor-trailer.
Three lanes are currently closed. Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are assisting on the scene. Additional assistance is being provided by personnel from Montgomery County emergency medical services, fire department, and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
