Applicant Orientation

Applicants that are selected to continue from the Online application will be sent a self-schedule notice for the Applicant Orientation.

During the Applicant Orientation you will learn much more about the Maryland State Police through discussions and video presentations. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to decide if the Maryland State Police is right for you. 

****UNDER MPTC REGULATIONS EACH CANDIDATE MUST BE ABSENT OF CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE USE (3) THREE YEARS PRIOR TO CERTIFICATION AS A POLICE OFFICER.****

Applicants selected to attend, should arrive on time and plan to spend three hours at the Applicant Orientation. Appropriate business attire (a jacket and tie for men and a pant suit or skirt for women) is expected. Please do not arrive in casual attire such as khakis or jeans as you will not be admitted.

Please be sure to bring the following items when you attend: 

  • A Blue Pen​
  • A Note Pad
  • Your Valid Driver's License
  • Please come prepared knowing your Social Security Number

 

To speed up your process, after orientation, please request official copies of your transcripts from your high school and every college you have attended. If you received a GED, please request an official transcript of your test grades. These documents will be requested when the application is completed in full. 

Orientations are held throughout the State. The list of Orientation dates, times and locations will be sent to selected applicants with the self-schedule notice. 

NOTE: The Applicant Orientation will be canceled due to inclement weather when the Snow Emergency Plan is placed into effect for the entire State, or in the county where the Applicant Orientation is being held. All announcements for cancellations will be posted on the main Career page.
