Police Selection Committee

The Police Selection Committee (PSC) is the final step in the application process.

An applicant's file will be presented to the PSC, a board of five (5) permanent members from various units within the Maryland State Police. The board assesses all phases of an applicant's process to determine their competitiveness toward a seat in an academy class.

The presentation DOES NOT include the applicant's age, sex, race, or medical information.

The PSC will band an applicant into one of the following competitive categories:

  • BEST
  • BETTER
  • QUALIFIED
  • NOT-QUALIFIED

Applicants banded BESTBETTER, and QUALIFIED will be ranked to determine competitiveness in an academy class.

Applicants banded NOT-QUALIFIED will be disqualified from the process.
